Banko di Palabra (BdP) is a project by Ace Suares, established in 2006. The goal was to allow everyone to add words to the database. Logged-in users could also vote for words. The next step would be for an official institution like FPI (now NTIC) to select the top ten words and add them to the official dictionary.
Unfortunately, FPI was not interested in any form of digitalization of Papiamentu. Almost 20 years later, NTIC, which took over from FPI, is also not interested.
Suares Projects has carried the project for more than 20 years without much progress. However, some people use the BdP on a daily basis. Suares Projects is now investigating what can be done to keep the BdP alive and make it more useful for the community.
